Current Event
When J.F.K. was assassinated, America and the world was devastated. One of the most historical deaths in history is often associated with J.F.K's son saluting to his coffin. On March 4, the photographer who captured this touching, intimate moment, Stan Stearns, passed away. Stearns began his love for photography when he received a brownie camera for his bar mitzvah. At 16, he dropped out of high school to pursue his career as a photographer for a small newspaper. Stearns was assigned to cover John F. Kennedy's funeral on Nov. 25, 1963. He knew right away when he captured this photograph, that he had the picture of the funeral. While other photographers focused on Jackie Kennedy, he was able to catch this small notion of respect and love for his father. Stearns recalls, "Seconds, that's all it was. And I knew I had the picture of the funeral."
